The tour to the baltic states

 

24/06.  Flew to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. I started alone on a round trip to the town. It was before I met with the group and our guide. I visited the Gedimino tower and I saw a catholic procession outside the national museum.

 

25/06. We had a guided tour through town. Started with  Vilnius Cathedral, and then Gedimino tower for the second time. We saw the President Palace, and the old city with the University. Later we saw St Anne and the Bernhardines church, the city gate and an orthodox church.

In the afternoon, there were a trip to the Trakei castle outside the city. It was very heavily restored, almost rebuild in a way we would never do in Western Europe.

 

26/06. We drove from Vilnius to Riga with a few stops. The first stop was in Siavliai for lunch. The next stop was the Cross Hill a catholic place of pilgrimage. Later we crossed the border to Latvia and visited the baroque castle Rundale. At seven o’clock we arrived in Riga.

 

27/06.  Day trip to Sigulda which is situated in the middle of Gaujas national park. Sigulda is two ruins on either side of a ravine. We visited Turaidas Pilskaus park with sculptures and the castle ruin Turaidas Pils now a historic museum.

 

28/06. Round trip in Riga to look at art nuveau houses. Later on we went on our own to see the churches. It was a day with much rain.

 

29/06. Drove to Estland and Talinn. We stopped at Pärnu at the Riga bay, bu it rained very much.

 

30/06. Round trip in the old city of Talinn in the morning. In the afternoon we went to Kadriorg in the outskirts of the city. In the evening we had a farewell dinner

 

01/07 Flew back to Denmark. Return
