The Camels During my trip to India I received an invitation from The Maharaja of Rajastan. Rajastan is a big desert area in the north west of India. On the picture to the left you can see the Maharaja together with his ministers and top civil servants. The castle of the Maharaja is situated in the middle of the desert. Outside the gate of the castle many people have settled and a whole city has grown up. You can see this in the picture of the gate. Before we reached the castle of the Maharaja we had to travel three days through the desert of Rajastan. The temperature is very high in the middle of the day, it can reach 50 centigrade in the shadow. We were riding on camels, and this is very uncomfortable. The saddle is very hard and this was hard for my bottoms. We had to have many rests. I took a small film during such a rest. You can see this film if you click on the laughing camel. When the camels are resting they start farting. I made a sound record of a camel fart. It was a big one, and I remember I thought at that time that it was the biggest fart in India. During the night it was cool and we were camping and sleeping in the open air. There were many stars and we were watching them until we fell asleep. |
