Rome october 2005

Sunday 16/10

I chose to be sent over Prague and get 250€ for the extra trouble. When leaving the plane in Rome all my papers and a voucher for the 250€ was stolen. I never got the money from Alitalia.

Monday 17/10

I started at Coliseum, where it took a very long time to get in. Then I went through Forum Romanum to the Capitol. Museums are closed on Mondays, so I did not see the Capitol Museums. I did however see the interior of the Victor Emanuel Mausoleum.

Tuesday 18/10

I started with The Bath of Diocletian which was situated right behind my hotel. In fact I was looking down on them from my window. Then I went to Trastevere on the other side of the Tiber River. Later I saw Castel Del Angelo, which was closed on my first trip to Rome. The weather was dry.

Wednesday 19/10

First I went to Piazza del Poppolo and the Picino hill. The Museum for Etruscan Art was closed, but I saw the Museum of Modern Art. I was surprised to see paintings glorifying the fascism. Close to the Museum is a replica of Thorvaldsen’s Jason with the Golden Fleece. Villa Borghese was next on my agenda. Here you have limited time, you only get 2 hours. I ended on Piazza Barberini. There were showers all day long.

Thursday 20/10

It rained all day long. The Capitol Museums were open and I started there. Next were Piazza Colonna and the Trevi Fountain. I ended with two churches, San Pietro e Vincoli and Santa Maria Maggiore. My cell phone was stolen from me by two small boys just in front of the hotel.

Friday 21/10

On Piazza Quirinale the buildings was painted in a yellow color instead of the beautiful ochre colors I saw last I was there. I visited the museum in Palazzio Venezia in order to avoid the rain. Later I went to Piazza Navone and Piazza Minerva with the elephant. It was still raining so I went into Santa Maria sopra Minerva. In the evening I went to the Cestius Pyramid., but the museum was closed, and it was dark.

Saturday 22/10

I gave up entering the Vatican museums because the queue was too long. Instead I saw Peters Church and the Lateran church.

Sunday 23/10
