Diary from Spain June 2013

Sunday June 2

Arrived late at Toledo. After lunch we had a tour of the city with a local guide. There are many things to see, and this tour was only an introduction. The Corpus Christi festival is just finished, and the decorations are still hanging in the streets.

Monday June 3

We started with a bus trip back to Madrid. We had a tour of the old city with our danish guide. She is living here in the city. It lasted till lunch. I did not see anything new, which I did not see when I was here last time. After lunch we were on our own. I went down to the Reina Sofia Museum where there was an exposition of paintings by Salvatore Dalí.

Tuesday June 4

Today was without prearranged program. I took the high speed train to Madrid Atocha and made a shift to the Metro which now goes all the way to the Escorial. I visited the museum in the Monastery: San Lorenzo de El Escorial. It is the burial place for the Royal Spanish family. Photos were forbidden inside the museum.

After lunch I hired a taxi and went to “The Valley of the Fallen”. It is Franco's (disgusting) memorial of himself and the fallen from the civil war. He is himself buried there.

Wednesday June 5

Today was again in our own hand. I was discovering Toledo all day.

El Greco Museum is a rebuild house showing how the painter supposedly lived in Toledo.
